One of Aesop's best known fables told wordlessly? Yep! The only "words" are sounds--a roar, the hoot of an owl, the chewing of a mouse. The combination of Pinkney's vivid, facial expression-rich artwork and imitatable sounds worked very well for our toddler. She keeps asking me to read the "lion and amimal (sic) book" to her. That's enough to confirm
the Lion and the Mouse's Caldecott-worthy status for me.
