Ready for Pumpkins - Kate Duke Fun because it's told from the point of view of a beloved classroom pet hamster named Herky (short for Hercules). Both Sigourney and I enjoyed the simply-elegant drawings very much. Kate Duke's a talented children's author and illustrator.

BONUS WARNING: Ready for Pumpkins gives young readers a rudimentary lesson on how to grow things, and on the importance of patience for aspiring green thumbs.
