The Story of Ferdinand - Munro Leaf, Robert Lawson My favorite book as a child. I was so relieved when Ferdinand survived the bullfight! And it was always comforting to think that Ferdinand might still be sitting under his favorite tree smelling the flowers. I didn't know bullfighting existed before reading this book. So, I've always believed it to be cruel. More than likely, my sensitivity to animal cruelty and my desire to be nonviolent both have their roots in this story. Can't say any other books have had such a profound impact on my thought and actions.
